one thing i’ve noticed is it’s not necessarily that our families/friends are violently racist people, it’s much more subtle than that. it’s being told not to talk abt political matters, to avoid discussion with elder family members. it’s being told you have ‘beautiful fair skin.’ it’s letting aunties tell your kids they shouldn’t play in the sun too much. it’s subtle, but it’s anti-black sentiment nonetheless. and we need to stop ignoring it in the name of respect for our elders. because what kind of respect can you have for someone that says these ignorant things?
